Discounts on Guided Trips For The Entire Month of October!!!!

Nice Late September Rainbow

Fall Colors

Big Streamer Eater

Wind River Brown

Well here we are at the end of the fishing season.  Well at least at the end of the busy fishing season.  Due to the high water that we experienced a majority of the summer the Wind River is is great shape right now!  This time of year is your best chance to catch a trophy fish up here in the upper Wind River Valley.  The leaves are changing and the browns are starting to move.  If your are going to be up near Dubois during the month of October and are wanting to fish I would HIGHLY recommend getting out on the water and fishing a big fall colored streamer!!  This is the time when big Brown Trout become very aggressive and will eat a big fly.

Here at the shop we are offering a special on all of our guided trips.  Book a trip and receive 15% off, plus another 20% off any items you buy in the shop!!!  Come experience the solitude and beauty of this time of year by fishing on the Wind River near Dubois, Wyoming.

Please Call (307) 851.4191 to reserve your guided fishing trip!!!!

The Scott A3 Fly Rod

My good friend Trevor with his first fish caught on a fly.
Using his trusted Scott A3 5wt.
Well my good friend John Dobson (Modobi) stopped by the shop today to visit about new products soon to be on the market.  One that I'm really excited about is the new Scott A4 fly rods.  These are the new version of the Scott A3's with just a few changes such as the color, new reel seats and maybe a little bit more stiffness to the action.  This means that it is time to move the A3's out and make room for the new A4's.  The A3 is a great rod for the beginner and advanced angler.  With it's meduim/fast action the A3's can handle any type of fishing situation you are faced with.  At the shop I currently have only two left.  A 9ft 5wt and also a 9ft 6wt.  They retail for $355.00 and we are going to let them go for $270.00.  If you have any questions please feel free to email me or call me directly.  We will gladly ship them to anywhere in the United States for free!  (307) 851.4191

Lake Trout On The FLY!!!

So after a long day of sitting at the shop watching it rain Isaiah and I decided it was time to find a lake and start chucking streamers.  We went to a lake only minutes away from the shop launched the drift boat and headed out.  Four casts later I hooked into this pig of a trout and the fight was on.  At one point I had around 20yds of backing out and were trying to trying to catch up to him as he headed to the center of the lake.  After a 30 minute fight we were able to snap some pictures and release him.  Just an incredible evening and an amazing fish!!!  Stay tuned for more reports from the Dubois area!!

Another Hard Day At The Office

John Sable with one hell of a Rainbow

Rick Bauer with a big Wind River brown
Here are a couple of pictures of my friends from Colorado.  I was fortunate enough to meet John and Rick late this spring at the shop and we have been keeping intouch ever since.  Like everyone else they are waiting for the upper section of the Wind to clear so we can show them some serious freestone river fishing.  As you can tell from the pictures they are finding ways to beet the runnoff!  Nice work guys!!  Look forward to seeing you again soon!

Dubois Fishing Report

Sorry for the lack of updates.  The Wind River Valley has started to warm up and the fishing is finally starting to pick up.  The Wind River is slowly starting to go down and is trying to clear up.  A couple more weeks and I think we will be in business.  Our high mountain lakes are finally ice free and are fishing very well.  August through October are going to be killer months for fishing the Wind River if you are going to be in our neck of the woods during this time give us a call and we will get you out in the water!  (307) 851.4191

Big Bow

This is a nice rainbow I hooked into a couple weeks ago.  The water looked just like Lipton Ice Tea but it was clear and we managed to pick up a couple of fish on nymphs.  The waters around Dubois are still in limbo.  The Wind River seems to be getting higher and is off color.  I hear rumor that the lakes are still frozen but will hopefully get a chance to go check them out this weekend.  One of our guides is floating the Big Horn through Thermopolis today and I'm eager to hear how the fishing was.  Stay tuned for more photos and fly fishing reports from the Dubois and the surrounding areas!

the streamer bite

wedding of the waters brown

state park section of wind river canyon

On Monday I met up with friend and fellow guide, Charles in Wind River Canyon.  He showed me how the jet boat trips worked in the river and i was impressed.  The water was very high which pushed fish to the banks so I chucked streamers all day.  These were 2 of the browns I pulled into the boat.  If you are interested in a jet boat trip on the state park section of Wind River Canyon or float trip on the Big Horn call us at the shop and we will put you intouch with our friends 307 Outfitters.

Very Healthy Bow

Nice Work Garrett!
Our friend Garrett has really been getting after the fish as of late.  This is one of many that he has fooled in the last couple of days.  He has been hooking into some monsters including a 29 inch Rainbow!  So if you can find clear water then it's worth getting your line wet.  The rivers are getting higher everyday with the recent warm weather we have had.  So until the ice starts coming off the lakes we are going to be in limbo for a few days as far as fishing goes.  If you are not worried about a longer drive we recommend fishing the lower section of the Wind River below Boysen Reservoir.  If this sounds like something you might be interested in we recommend going with 307 Outfitters out of Lander.  Call us at the shop for any questions and more info. Huge Brown Trout

So after going to college and working your but off for a few years and then finally graduating most people turn right around and find a job related to their degree and start making money, right?  Well For Isaiah Perez who is one of the top guides at WD Fly Fishing Outfitters that statement above is not true.  After graduation Isaiah headed south for New Zealand.  For 6 months Isaiah tested the islands waters while living out of his van.  This is only one of the many fish he hooked into while being a nomad for half a year!  Now that he has returned home to Wyoming Isaiah is in the shop tying up pattern after pattern in preparation for this years guide season in the Wind River Valley.  Isaiah has been keeping a close eye on the Wind River, East Fork, Wiggins Fork, and the reservation drainage's as the snow pack in the Wind River and Absaroka Mountains starts to let go.  If you need any info on the river conditions and fishing reports for the valley feel free to call Isaiah 307.286.1665 for the most up to date information.

Fishing to be had in the Wind River Valley

Beautiful Cutthroat from high mountain lake near Dubois, Wyoming from the Spring of 2010

Well Spring has definitely plagued the Wind River Valley.  Last week a system came through Central Wyoming and reeked havoc with travelers all across the state.  The Wind River Mountains received over a foot of fresh snow on top of an outstanding snow pack still left to melt from the winter.  The Wind River is starting to swell and is off color but our guides have been on the water and are hooking up.  Night crawlers and Panther Martins are the ticket (just kidding).  Dark colored streamers are receiving the bites from our fish as of right now.  Once the snow pack starts to release its self the Wind will become quite large and off colored.  If you are in the area this time of year we suggest fishing some of the high mountain lakes once the ice is off.  Scuds, leeches and egg patterns are very effective.  If you want a tail water to fish  you will need to buy yourself a Wind River Reservation permit and and then go take advantage of some of the best water in Wyoming.  Dinwoody Creek and Lower Bull Lake Creek will only get better and better as the water volume increases.  For any info on the great fly fishing destinations on the Wind River Indian Reservation feel free to contact us and we will lead you in the right direction.

Warm Days and Lots of Snow

Well after a few very warm days in the Wind River valley you can be sure that the run off is soon to follow.  Our guided trips will be focused mainly on the high mountain lakes that surround Dubois while we let the river do its thing.
One of the biggest tips I can give people for fishing high off colored water during the spring is don't be afraid of the muddy water!  Fish are used to dealing with high water flows and off colored water so don't be shy about wetting a line.  During this time fish are going to move from their established runs and homes from the center of the river and will be concentrated closer to the banks.  It is here that they can withstand the fast current and also have the best visibility for finding food.  In dark muddy water be sure to use flies that will show up the best.  Hug a black, or dark brown bugger close to the banks and hold on!  You might be surprised at how well fast off colored water can fish!
